Sicilian opening is great but Caro Kan is preffered.

Probably fried-liver attack and Evans gambit are strong options for beginners. These variations come from Italian, one of the most classic openings.

but, if you want him to catch his begginer opponents by suprise, Ruy Lopez will work, its not actually that hard to understand. look at this video and see if you have to learn 500 variations because people say "it''S THe OnlY WAy" or if you just have to leanr what every piece has to do.
