Best openings for beginners(White)

Dear player,

if your points are below 1K, maybe you should be more aware about the opening principles. Or maybe learn how to play your favorite opening? You should definitely try those openings as White.

1. Italian Game

This is a very balanced opening, usually leading to a sequence of development moves like 3. ... Bc5 4. Nc3 Nf6 5.d3(Giuoco Piano: Italian Four Knights, Giuoco Pianissimo) or 3. Nf6 4. Ng5 d5 5. exd5 Nxd5?! 6. Nxf7(Fried Liver Attack). But be aware, that you should test a certain line before playing it(maybe use a chess engine?).

2. Scotch Game

This position often results in exchanging pawns, and sometimes even knights. But be aware, that if your queen comes out, it might become an exposed target. Find your best line and practice it.

3. Queen's Gambit

This opening starts by pushing the d pawn. However, be aware, that this opening has a huge amount of variations like Queen's G. Accepted, Declined, Slav Defense, Albin CG., and even more.

Anyway, have a good one(already tested those)!

And take this little puzzle(Danish G. Accepted)

1. e4 e5 2. d4 exd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Bc4 cxb2 5. Bxb2 d5 Is a line of Danish. White captures with the bishop, and black plays c6??. Why was it a blunder? Prove it.

Note that (particularly for the beginner openings tier list) they will frequently refer to some openings as "garbage" or "bad" (an unfortunate choice of terms in my view). This is not to say that these openings are inherently bad for all players. These qualifiers are meant simply to convey how appropriate the specific opening is for the level of player being discussed, in terms of, for example, how much so-called "theory" (i.e., the collection of extensively documented variations) the opening encompasses, or how much emphasis the opening places on positional versus tactical skills in order to play it well. So, an opening they refer to as "garbage" for a beginner may in fact be appropriate for higher rated players who typically know more of the theory for particular openings and have a more highly developed understanding of positional concepts.

Well, these aren't hard to play for White(except for some lines, such as Rousseau Gambit)

Black-mar Diemer: OP

One of Stockfish's favorite openings is the Fried Liver Attack, and also one of the openings I play the most:

Although white is down a piece, they are ahead in development, black has a king in the center of the board, which can be opened with a move like d4, and white can castle and apply further pressure to the vulnerable king.

Nice to see the Blackmar-Diemer and FL! Thanks for supporting me. Also, I've just created something for Black as well. Intermediate openings soon?

I think Scillian and Queen gambit are good. Well, that’s what I play at least.

As a new player personally I prefer Ruy Lopez. It just makes for fun games. Also it feels like a very solid choice for improving as a player.

Have seen it mentioned that the Ruy Lopez is very theory heavy but I don't see how that is a problem. I know the first 3 moves and after that I just make plays that seems logical. If someone outplays me in the opening because they know theory that's fine. If they are around my skill level I still have a chance to turn things around in the middle game. People around my rating are not playing perfectly so there will be opportunities. A game is not lost because you are say 1 pawn down after the opening or whatnot.

If you like opening traps, try this(these are Sicilian traps). Oh, and also try 2. d4
