Actually, the bishop moves straight but because the Earth's axis is tilted by 23 degrees, it couldn't maintain itself during movement and goes diagonal. This secret has been kept hidden since the dawn of humanity and have been revealed by the Greek God of Chess- Bobby Fischer in the holy book, chapter 93, verse 1943.

Thank you for this info, I yesterday had a tournament, and I thought that they move in an "L" shape, then I got 2 illegal moves and lost all games. I thought, what I did wrong, and as it turns out, it's that bishops can't move in an L shape
