Use verification move. That way you have to confirm a move or cancel it. I use it in correspondence.

Speaking of verification move, doesn't it seem like a bit of a cheat that it reveals whether or not your move will be checkmate before you confirm it?

In OTB play? Yes, but if you do that your opponent is allowed to whack you on the head with a rubber hammer.

The best blitz player I ever beat on l*chess.org was 1853, and he asked for a takeback after hanging a rook in a rook and pawn endgame. I declined because I really wanted to beat him. (Plus I doubt he would have given me a takeback if that happened to me.)
