Try to shift your focus away from your rating and instead focus on enjoying the game itself.

Why is such a simple and valuable suggestion so difficult to accept and put into practice ?...

To improve your chess and overcome your frustrations, focus on quality over quantity in your practice. Work on understanding basic principles deeply, analyze your games (win or lose) to identify mistakes, and practice patience in decision-making. Seek guidance from a mentor or coach to provide personalized feedback. Develop a positive mindset, avoiding impulsivity or frustration-driven actions like quitting games. Lastly, cultivate good sportsmanship and respect for fair play to maintain a positive reputation in the chess community. With dedication, perseverance, and a constructive approach, you can break through your current plateau and enjoy chess progression.

yes you need to study some lines, memorise patterns, look for positions that are winning and try to achieve this, now, just studying the theory wont get you anywhere cause you need practical play to implement those theoris, now once you start doing it you will lose a lot of games, cause you will make mistakes and not remember stuff correctly, on the other hand what seems to be a popular take, is to take 1-2 openings, blast these ad infinitum, you will win more games than you lose and thus gain rating, but you will hit a ceiling at one point anyway

Hi

ClaudB1

Hi, I'm also stuck with my rapid elo for a very long time. It's frustrating and it was difficult to still enjoy the game. Some time I found out, that there are daily chess tournaments for players under 1000 elo. Thats more fun for me now. I also like the puzzles (3 a day, because I don't pay) and puzzle rush (5 minutes). My rapid elo is still stuck, but I enjoy playing anyway. Try to stay motivated! That’s the most important thing. It's a fun game.

Mindset shifts are really hard to accomplish, for two reasons. The first, it's difficult to realize that a change in mindset is required. This is due to the fact that people are unlikely to be objective about their thoughts and what they can do to improve them. The second, people tend to be attached to their mindsets. This probably stems from an unconscious belief that their thoughts define themselves, which is incorrect. However this causes people to have a difficult time changing their mindset due to irrational attachment to that mindset and unwillingness to change. They may also overestimate the challenge of mindset shifting.

Yes, I guess so.

Yet, in general, when you want to make a decisive change in things, a change of approach is always the most effective way, or even the only one. Sooner or later you will learn it, if you don't want to stay in the same condition indefinitely.

Of course.
