I've definitely had those days, grinded 200 elo points only to drop 100 the next day. It stung a bit, but in the end they help balance it. If your elo is tanking maybe you need to improve more before climbing again. Just keep playing and improving. As to pulling yourself out of the funk, maybe go do something non chess related (Drink a cup of tea, watch a movie ect.) Fresh perspective > a salty one.
Chess game taking a nosedive?

This happens to me as well. Sometimes I'm mentally drained after work and end up blundering in every game that night. I play a lot against the computer and generally win about half of the time against the 1300 rated bots. I was struggling so bad against them yesterday that I randomly challenged a 400 rated bot to feel better about myself, but I got checkmated in less that 30 moves! Quit for the day after that and have been playing a lot stronger today.

I was actually in a similar discussion over puzzles recently- my take is similar to the previous replies in that if I'm over tired or/and under caffeinated, I'm driving the struggle bus...or being run over by it, can't decide which.
Usually a good night of sleep works wonders. Even a day away (*gasp*) just to recharge the mental batteries by reading a non-chess book, or going on a brisk hike, seems to help me refocus.
Point is, I think we all have streaks where we can't do anything right for a few days, but then it'll come around and balance out with a string of days where every move is the best or brilliant...at least, that's what I keep telling myself!
Hang in there- we're pulling for you!
When you are doing puzzles, you don't seem to think at all, you just make a random move in 5-10 seconds. That is why your puzzle rating is going down.
Hey all, been here for a while, first time really posting.
Every day for the past week or so, I've been absolutely failing at the game. My puzzle ranking is down over 100 points, and every engine I play (1200-1300) are wins but only by the skin of my teeth. I was wondering if anyone ever had days (or weeks, in my case) like this and how they got out of their funk.
Any advice at all would be appreciated.
Better to play actual people than bots. Bots just make some very weird moves and are overrated. In any case, people having bad streaks, with time they tend to pass naturally. If it doesn't, take a bit of a break, then get back in when you feel fresh.
