When, are you considered a beginner chess player, intermediate and pro player. What will the ratings be for the 3 groups?

Wildekaart

A beginner I would say is someone who only started playing chess more seriously no longer than three months ago. Their rating isn't usually anything higher than 1500.

Intermediate players have often played for quite some time and are already quite apt with opening theory, time controls and setting traps. Some 1800-2100 this group is.

Pro players, very simple, are the titled players. GM's and IM's, FM's also probably. CM's is a fifty-fifty whether you include them or not. They have over-the-board ratings of 2200 and higher and online usually at least 2350.

There are more like 4 groups. Beginner, intermediate, expert, and master (lump all the masters together for simplicity). Beginner is less than 1400(ish), intermediate is 1400-1800(ish), expert is 1800-2200(ish), master is 2200+.

If you prefer to differentiate between someone who is new and someone with a rating less than 1400, then replace 'beginner' with 'novice', but you get the idea.

I can't imagine a description weirder than this.

Here the scale I propose, based on common opinions of OTB Chess players:

Under 1000: pre-beginner

1000 - 1200 beginner

1200 - 1400 weak club player

1400 - 1800 club player

1800 - 2200 strong club player

2200 and above: pro player

2300 FM

2400 IM

2500 GM

2600 strong GM

2700+ Top GM

Ayyy I’m a club player

There are official determinations for intermediate, beginner, advanced, master. You look for an official rating online or make your own
