Does anyone have a nice opening to do as black?

GM Ben Finegold's recommendation is for beginers just to develop their pieces in the opening, as a lot don't. So as long as you get the knights and bishops to good squares not to be blundered and you get your king safe, then you will have a good game. So, if you are facing 1.e4, it is best to respond in a way to get your pieces developed. 1.e5 and just play against that. If 1.d4 play 1.d5 and develop against that. This should give you a good foundation to the game, and more enjoyable competative experience.

Keep your opening repertoire small and solid for now, until you reach 1200 maybe! You might wanna try something like modern/pirc with black pieces and Giuco Piano with the white pieces!

The only thing I learn about openings is the Vienna Gambit as White. As for the rest, I only use the note in my mind, which is "activate your pieces as much as possible" by bringing out my knight and bishop, then castling (if possible).

Yes it works for me

King's Indian against d4 Pirc against e4
God No. Used to play it, the setup is easy but if you mess up once you are done. Your opponent usually has to misplay it.
Magnus plays pirc! It is very simple learn it from igor smirnov I learnt it from him and I have a pretty good win rate.
