Elo and practice.

I've took a huge break from chess and came back to it via joining this website.

My question is if I want to play practice games should I be signing off my account?

This way my rating won't go lower because I'm trying out new things.

I have sometimes signed off to practice but then the main drawback is I won't have the game there saved so I can go back and look over what went wrong and what I could do better.

At the moment I'm clinging onto having more wins than loses just about, but I feel like I'm clinging onto this at the expense of not practising much of anything new.

You can choose to play some unrated games if you do not want a certain game to affect your rating.

Ok thanks, that was more simple than I expected. I need to explore the options when I click play more. I've just been playing rated games since I joined.

No problem. Though what @PathOfNerd says is also correct. Mistakes will happen and you will lose and win because of them.
I play some unrated games... against lower rated people compared to me and when I want to play a slightly quicker relaxing game. But for learning purposes, I prefer rated longer games.
