i had this similar c4 e4 d3 opening used against me once in my first classical otb tournament, i was black. here, white close the position straight from the opening and holding tightly the d5 square at the risk of weakening his d4 square. also here black doesn't have to play c5. another alternative is playing c6 and aiming for d5 pawn break. also in this position both player are aiming for pawn break in the b file or f file by rerouting the knight first usually, in closed position the player can manuever the piece slowly without worrying about a sudden attack. because of this white has lost his/her first move advantage and this opening leads to a drawish game. but of course it is playable

In the Botvinnik, the King's Knight should go on e2 (e7) not on f3 (f6).
