A great player once told me you will see a downswing before you see an upswing.

Alien tactical motifs and combinations only 3200+ players can solve, after a lot of thinking.

I like playing the computer to get better. If you are consistently beating the computer then raise the level and learn the new tactics the computer uses against you. I’m 1190 daily and level five vs the computer now.

Eric, re point 3, why is it a bad idea to exchange pawns when ahead in material?

It will obviously always depend on the position, but as a general rule, if it’s safe to do so, I don’t understand the issue by trading down material, pieces or pawns?

To avoid getting into King+Bishop or King+Knight vs King positions?

I can see that you’re playing against players with an ELO of 400-500. If you don’t fight people above your level (e.g. 1000 ELO) you won’t learn anything and you’ll stay at the same level.

I wish that when I first got interested in chess that I'd had the opportunity to regularly play against 2000+ players. It is a rare opportunity, so the effect of modern-day streamers should not be underestimated, and for them to clarify their thinking is a real blessing when one is striving to achieve excellence oneself in the field of chess.

Naroditsky's speed run videos are the best instructional videos out there (which I have seen).

Inactivity could be for any number of reasons so consider that before you decide they 'gave up'.
