Getting Good

I’ve played chess for a few years, but I tend to play Blitz/Bullet as they are easier to fit into my schedule. How can I improve as a player? Currently ~1400 in blitz, unsure about other time controls. Is there a good curriculum to see improvement from a beginner to a solid player?

Well, playing speed chess is detrimental to chess improvement. There is simply not enough time to think about some critical position.

Here are all the tips I can give about chess improvement:

You don't have to do all of this at the same time, you can take it slow, but this is how I did it.

A steady diet of speed chess, while fun, is not conducive to improvement.  You're not giving yourself time to think, and there is no way you will be able to implement what you are studying into your games.

Add some daily games at 3 days per move. They give you ample time to think and fit easily into any busy schedule. If you've got 5 games going all the time, you can easily find time to really ponder what you're going to do next.
