This counterplay from black.

Fried Liver Attack is one of best lines in all of chess.

Which is why Black players are scared to let White get into!

Fear!

I don't think that's a proper fried liver. You don't play d3 and allow Nf6, you play Ng5 instead of d3, forcing an active response. There are many traps for both sides, like the tracksler for black or in some cases a Nxf7 sacrifice after d5.

You are correct.

The example Vish showed isn’t the Fried Liver and White played the position poorly.

The Move Ng5 is played to defend the e4 pawn + counter attack black f7 pawn.

If you look closely, Black played Knight to f6 on move 3 which attacks the e4 pawn.

This allows the move Ng5

The Position is different because Black played a different move.

They moved the Bishop, not the Knight.

White can play the move c3 which is considered the main line move.

Or if White wants to be aggressive.

White can play the move b4 attacking the Bishop which is known as the Evan’s Gambit.

they immediatley mess it up. if you are under 200 elo it seems to be really bad because your opponent thinks you are being dumb

i love it. however it doesn't really work past 800ish because most people know about it and you'll be encountering either the traxler or the polerio which white can keep an equal position in but it is difficult.

This is not the Fried Liver, this is the Traxlar Counterattack. Why do lower elo players insist on calling any varriant of the Itallian game: Knight attack a Fried Liver? Also this not the only way black can decline going into a Fried Liver, black has several responses. It is only a Fried Liver if the below position is reached:

the fried liver is the one where you castle right?

I showed the moves on the board, if you can't see the board here are the moves, you don't castle to enter a fried liver:

1. e4e52. Nf3Nc63. Bc4Nf64. Ng5d55. exd5Nxd56. Nxf7

If you want to know when to castle after entering a fried liver here is a possible continuation:

I call this the Ruy Llopez fast gambit

I used to always try things like this, but when you realise that people adapt from their opening to react to what you have played, it very rarely happens as easy as this.
