The site has many lessons and videos available that will teach you everything you need to know about the game. How many lessons have you done? What kinds of lessons? Openings? Endgames?
Drills to practices endgames are very helpful in learning how to do basic checkmates. Which ones do you know? Which ones give you trouble?
There is no reason to reinvent the wheel.
