Help beating Isabel-bot

I’ve been stuck trying to beat the 1600 rated Isabel bot, how can I win? I was able to beat Nelson a couple of times, and scraped by Antonio, but every time I think I’ve got a good position, she finds a weakness or I blunder. Generally, I play a solid King’s Indian on either side, and a fairly good middle game, but she simply just outplays me. Any tips?

After playing this bot for a while, my recommendation is to go with hypermodern setups with black and actively seek to trade everything down. If possible, get the queens and knights off the board ASAP. Also, hang in there for when "she" inevitably doesn't "know" how to convert an endgame with static weaknesses and no tactics. Try to remain active in the endgame with the king and you should be fine. As an example, see the weakness in the endgame in this game I've just played against this bot.

Hope that helps...

I will admit I just started playing chess again a few months ago so I didn’t understand some of the post but replaying your game I think will be helpful. Thanks for the help!

You will soon understand far more. My main suggestion is to try to exchange pieces and go for an endgame if you can. The bot is tactically strong, but its mistakes are typically about not capturing undefended pieces or capturing pieces just to capture (which works nicely when you want to trade down into a game with hardly any pieces). For instance, since you mentioned King's Indian setups... I've got a game against it with white...

for someone supposedly good at endgames, she won't protect her pawns early game and you can leave her 2-3 pawns short, trade, and win easily.   I just tried her and she hung 2 pawns, traded me to a rook & pawns endgame with her short by 3, and I got 2 queens with zero effort to finish up.

been trying to beat her for a while now, i tied once because i screwed up hard it was my king and a pawn versus her king alone and screwed it up.  anyway im a pretty decent bishop player if i do say so myself.  so my personal favorite is the polish opening and then take out the knigths but her knights are very annoying? knight defense help please? thanks

I’ve beaten her once, drawn with her many times, and gotten into won endgames several times only to get perpetual checked into a draw.

She is certainly the most annoying bot I’ve played.

I just beat Isabel for the first time! Been trying for months... I admit not being very adept at chess but I feel extremely proud of myself for squeezing the win. I was damn afraid to blunder a piece or stalemate at the end. Took me a total of 119 moves to win and I feel exhausted. My game might be extremely cringy, but hope it helps and people can learn from my mistakes.

Good luck!

I played the Vienna Gambit against her with qf3 and she traded queens. her endgame skills arent good so just try to simplify down and target the pawn weaknesses

I can’t beat Isabel either-

I was winning against that bot.. and then I made a blunder and lost. I feel so stupid. Especially after beating the previous bots more then once. Maybe I need to try different openings?

He's right, Isabel isn't as strong in endgame as the description says, so as long as you develop and defend solidly you should be fine, but make sure to stick to your basic endgame techniques too!

try the Evans gambit I always beat this bot with that

I beat the bot by cheating- using engine

okay,,i just played against her.. at beginning didn't expect she would play better than i thought...but later, she made mistakes..so i managed to defeat her faster than i had thought

i dunno if what her preference is, i mean her style....i was lucky she made more mistakes than i did (i think)..i haven't analyzed this game. but it looks like i played her in her bad day.. i think her loss occurred mostly because of her mistakes since i don't think my swindle was really great

Isabel chokes on the end game.  If you know your end games and are up one or two points, you should be able to win.

I played Isabel 3 times this morning and went 2-0-1 against her,  In my victory with white I had 5 mistakes and 7 blunders (according to liChess)!!  I don't know how I won (in the black victory I had 2 mistakes and 1 blunder).   I feel I am close to even with Antonio, a little behind Isabel and then Wally and Li are out of my league -- even though I have beaten Wally a few times and Li twice.  Wally and Li usually crush me!
