Stalemate is when one side is put in a position in which they have no legal moves, but are not in check. When you took the rook, the black king is not in check, but has no legal moves due to you attacking all the squares around him. Here's a more in depth guide to stalemate:

Hi I was just playing on the app a practice game when I got a stalemate after capturing an opponent rook. I took back the turn then tried moving the king and did NOT get a stalemate, so it can NOT be a timeout right? Then I do not understand why I got a stalemate after capturing the rook.
Any feedback will be appreciated thank you!!!
