Not sure if this is supposed to be posted here. Looked at all the forums, seemed like it'd be relevant:

So I've a question about this puzzle : https://www.chess.com/puzzles/problem/1181392

After taking the first pawn, and the enemy queen moving, I was stuck on what to do. I saw the "moving the bishop to defend" but that seemed like a bad option since the enemy queen can then take the pawn that was being protected by the bishop. Sure you can then take THEIR pawn on h7 with yours, preventing the rook capture for now since the king gets into a check, but then that pawn of yours is lost as soon as the queen moves, and unless you keep checking him, that rook is still in danger. If you move the rook to safety, the A2 pawn is just gone.

I see you can move the black square bishop for another check, then the queen once more for another check, and you can kind of chase the enemy king into the middle, and I dunno you may eventually even mate him, but I think a "risk a pawn sacrifice for putting the king in a disadvantageous position 3+" is a bit too much for a puzzle rated 700.

I eventually just did a "move king" and that was declared incorrect. So can someone explain to me why, following the bishop move to defend, the queen doesn't just take a free pawn? Am I missing an incredibly obvious move here?

There is too much attack coming for white after g7+, black never has time to take the rook. This line I give is just an example and probably isn't even the best, but there are lots of ways that white can attack the king.

Oh, thank you very much. I totally missed just straight up moving the pawn to g7 cause "he's just gonna get taken duh" and completely disregarding that possibility without even checking for a mate or promoting.

Looking at it a bit more, that still actually does a discovered check so I'm up no matter what I do.

Still feel like the puzzle is a bit too hard for the rating it's set at, most of the ones I did before that (in puzzle rush) were "mate in 1 with a bishop protected queen" or a "sacrifice the queen to backrank mate".

👍 This is what the puzzles are all about mate, now you have seen this and understand it remember it if something similar ever happens in a game. Discovered checks like this are almost always extremely strong and dangerous and if you can do it it should be by far more important than any threats you are seeing against your own pieces.
