How am I doing?

Hi there,

I've been playing actively on chess.com for a few months, and realising that I usually lose because of some tactical blunder, I'm trying to make sure I check for "checks, captures, and threats" before making a move. This is much harder than you'd think—I succeed maybe 80% of the time—but I think I play better, and it makes my games much more interesting. Like there's much more depth to the game all of a sudden.

Anyway, I just played a 10|0 rapid tournament, and I'd love someone's comments on the following three games. I already did the built-in analysis (key moments and such), but I get the feeling that comments from good human players would be helpful here.

In the first game, I am white, and I felt I had a pretty good attack going, but eventually, I hit the 20% where I do something silly in the end. Looking at the game afterwards, I'm starting to wonder whether my attack was all that solid, but I can't put my finger on it:

In the second game, I am again white. I managed to hold on to my concentration. Again, when I was playing, I felt like I was doing /really/ well, although I was less impressed when I looked at the game afterwards. I thought the pawn chain I got going in the center was kind of neat.

(I didn't realise 23. Bg5 would lead to ... Rxc4, but interestingly, the analysis engine thinks that's just fine.)

In the final game I am black. Again I get a pretty good attack going, but I am actually not quite sure how that happened. It's like, all of a sudden I have a bunch of pieces very close to the white king, and it seems to have happened sort of by itself. I'd like to understand what I did right (or what my opponent did wrong) to get there:

Thanks in advance for any help and tips!

PS. I was unsure whether to file this in "Beginners" or "Game analysis"; I hope this is the right place?

Game 1: playing along the d file is not enough to get the most of the position : it's slow and taking the weakie d6 while allowing Black to castle into safety is a small achievement. White should play f4 at some point to open the center against the uncastled black king . Bd7+ is just not a good move. White should play Bf1 (f4 or Rxd6 are possible too but much harder to calculate). 19. Rd7+ also let the king escape, the right move was 19. Qc5 to prevent it from running away.

Game 2 : not much to say, Black is completely lost by move 5 and the position was almost impossible to spoil because the white pawn chain was killing all Black's play. White missed several opportunities to finish the game at once (even in such crushing positions precise calculation is needed at some point) but the win was always there.

Game 3: 8. Qd3 is just a horrible move losing at once, allowing Black to take e5 with tempo and leaving f2 unprotected (8. Qe2 was correct).

Helpful, thanks! I couldn't figure where to do something differently in the first game to get to eventually play f4?

Game 1: move 20, Queen to b3 would give u more advantage...

AdhimasCandra

It will lead u to mate black

For instance at move 16 instead of 16. Rgd1 White can play 16. f4 :

a) 16. f4 exf4 17. Qxf4 0-0 18. Rxd6 Qe7 19. Rxg6+ (either rook) wins.

b) 16. f4 Qf6 and now 17. f5 is the simplest : 17... 0-0 18. fxg6 fxg6 19. Bf5 Ne7 20. Qh6 and White wins.

So Black must give up the idea of 0-0 but then with the black king stuck in the center White retains a large positional advantage.
