Opponents are selected from a ‘pool’ of players looking for a game at any given time. The goal is to pair each player with someone close to their level. Sometimes it’s hard to find that in both the higher and lower levels. You can create a custom game and select the rating range of your opponent to be closer to yours, or you could try playing against bots to gain some experience.

Ah ok thank you, that makes sense, I guess I was thinking there would be more lower rank players than there really are at any given time. I have played the computer quite a bit but haven't really been able to fine tune it, either I'm winning every time or I dial it up slightly and then I'm losing every time. I was hoping to get better balance with humans, probably just a matter of finding the right time of day to log in.
Just wondering how opponents are selected when I click the basic "new 10 min" game button. I know when I created this account a couple days ago I marked my level as beginner, but I think there was a level even below that, and as I keep getting paired with people 200 points above my ranking, I was hoping to lower it a bit since the games are ending too quick and I don't really get any experience.
