I often look at my opponents' stats and two things consistently amaze me.
1. Very few do many lessons. Chess.com has a lot of really good lessons. I've gone through over 120 so far and have learned a LOT! I am sure that has boosted my rating by at least 100 points. I am very sure for beginners it would be even more. [I'm currently around 1450, occasionally getting into the 1500's (briefly)].
2. Very few do many puzzles. In reviewing my games, I often find them very even for most of the game (according to the "Stockfish" engine sidebar rating) until one person makes a move which seems innocent, even threatening, but is a serious blunder. Doing a lot of puzzles has taught me to recognize these hard-to-see errors and I pick up a piece or a nice mating combination.
Every morning before I play a game, I do the "Daily Puzzle", 3 "Custom" puzzles, 1 round of "Puzzle Rush", a "Puzzle Battle", and 3 "Puzzles". That typically works out to about 40-50 puzzles a day. I am sure that is worth at least 100 points on my rating. When I miss a puzzle in "Rush" or "Battle", I "mouse click" on the puzzle so it opens in another tab and go over the solution until I see where I missed things originally.
