I started when i was 13 . . . In 1950 . . .
I'm now 82 . . . I don't know when I'll quit . . .
I am 11 years old and I started to play chess when I was 6
I was still in my mother. I wasn't even born yet.

I learned how the pieces moved around age 12. Started actually playing chess when I was 15. Glad to see people picking up the game at later ages. Better late than never!

Just note that the posted results may be skewed; it is probably more likely that active members posting on a chess site began playing chess earlier than someone elsewhere. You are right though, it is mainly about finding a circle of chess players to play with and discuss chess. I remember not having much at all of a chess circle: then a few things happened including me discovering chess.com

I was 14 when I learned chess, but I play only some games. With 46 I began to play chess in a chess club - it´s not easy to learn all the tactics and strategies so lately.
I used to think I knew how to play chess, now I wonder If I ever will...
i remember playing chess with my dad when i was 8y/o it wasnt anything serious it was just for fun and family time, i use to play with him almost every single day and when i turned 15 i started playing chess seriously - i am 16 now and i play chess everyday 1760s rating
Young. I'm honestly not sure exactly how old. I vaguely remember my dad brothers teaching me how the pieces moved, but we just always had a chess board out when I was growing up.

I started playing when I was 5....competing in schools, free education in College being chess varsity. Still, now plays chess and a Coach online...
