I started when four, then my dad stopped playing me because I could beat him.  I tought my younger brother to play when he was 2 or three.

Played long ago while in the Navy in 80s then stopped playing when I went back to civilian life. Had a stroke about 4 years ago and this past November started playing again to exercise my brain. Im am improving and now really enjoy the game. I find that I’m much better at 30 minute games vs faster games. I’m learning various openings and defenses and soon will try blitz again.

Since 2012 when I was 7. Played competitively quickly as I was in love with the game. I play for fun now and am a lot busier.

Hi all..I m just trying to help. I am just trying to help. Hi All.I see people want to reach 1800 ratings, but it only achieve able with hard work and being discipline as you have to spent time on a regular basis. Let me tell you a fact that, even i was 1200 here in chessdotcom and have reached 1900+ in 4 years because I was not regularly playing.I used to play only 3 months in a whole year which is not good enough.I didn't even try to think like 1500, 1700, 1900 mind sets in the game. Just be regular and try to play higher rated opponents so that you will come to know your weakness in your game. I stream chess games, puzzles ,puzzles battle for 1200-1800 rated players on regular basics and play with all people who wanted to feel how 1800 rated player game taste like. You can add me as friend and send challenges on chess.com. (Username you know already). You can catch me on www.twitch.com/corporatechessguy for livestream. I hope you all get a chance to play with 1800 Player like me, as other high rated players don't except challenges from lower rated player to be honest. Hoping to receive more friend request on chessdotcom and followers on twitch. Let's play together!

+1 with how to improve. Although many stronger players will accept challenges from weaker rated players. If you really just want to play stronger players, then I recommend friending stronger players and even sending unrated challenges. Remember that you do not need to necessarily win rating from them, you just need to improve your overall chess ability and they can indirectly help you with that. Don't just send a request and instantly challenge them. Chat about chess, ask them chess questions, be a real friend for them etc. Most players are more than willing to share their chess knowledge with someone friendly. I like helping chess players improve (stronger as well as weaker rated than myself) because I find the act of "teaching" to help myself discover subtle new insights.

online, not otb. I accredit my progress to my coach and my parents for taking me to tournaments and just supporting me in general happy.png Of course, I had to practice and everything, but that isn't really "work" if you love the game.

I learned when I was 9 when my Oma gave me a glass chessboard. I didn’t really get into it till 7th grade when my dad took away the WiFi, I found a board, played against myself, and now I’ve started my own chess club at my highschool and we got 1st place in our last tournament!
