I'm still learning
since modern defense is a hypermodern, and you played badly against hypermodern so you have to play the center to avoid hypermodern. Taking as much space versus hypermodern opening.

++ Space is overrated. It is rather a matter of seizing the center and developing your pieces.
Gaining space overextending with pawns often leads to effective couterattacks on your center.
Taking slight space adv, and do not over extend.

Just push h pawn forward and forward until either it is killed by the g6 pawn or it kills the g6 pawn, pushing h pawn forward makes modern defence players very nervous

that's over simplifying, but yes the end run of the h-pawn is one approach to the modern/pirc/rat complex. It's hardly a silver bullet, but it is one way to either win gloriously or go down in flames trying. One game that will repay study is Borkowski-Nunn, Groningen 1974/5 (Euro Jnr Champ) For a long time, this was one of my favourite games. It featured a ferocious K-side attack met by wily counter-attack. Black won (it's Nunn's book), but give white credit for playing for blood.
Yes friend I know but the person asking for advice is just a beginner, so I was trying to simplify the problem he is facing, and once he starts doing it he will ask what should I do if black stops my advance by playing h5 himself, then I will guide him how to stop black from doing that, of course I know pirc, modern are reputable openings and regular part of the repertoire of many great GM's
Recently started playing loads recently, am hovering about 1000 Elo.
I've been playing extremely well these past few days, winning about 60% of my games, however any game in which I come up against the modern defence I get well and truly obliterated.
I can never break through the pawns, knights end up forking me in every which way.
What is the best method against it?
