Should I read a book on chess. Or Are there any sites where I can find simple puzzles to solve. I have been playing 10 minute matches online and can't seem to improve. This has been going over a year now and I am still stuck at beginner level. Please help

Hey man, I can't tell your actual level because you recently joined. If you would like free tactics to improve then you can use lichess and the free puzzles chess.com allows. I recommend chess.com lessons and puzzles if you want to learn the basics. If you would like more help I would be happy to do so! Message me if you are interested, let's improve together!

I'd highly recommend watching John Bartholomew's climbing the rating ladder "Up to 1000" video on youtube, and his series in general: 1200-1400, 1400-1600, 1600-1800 and 1800-2000.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected  chess coach and chess YouTuber who helps beginners out :

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP5SPSG_sWSYPjqJYMNwL_Q

Here’s some ideas to help you get better.

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces”   and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.”  Both books are available on Amazon.com.  Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

-Check out my 500 puzzles  for beginners on my website: www.ChessByLauren.com.  These puzzles are different than other puzzles on other website.  The puzzles are endorsed by top chess professionals.

Here are more tips for you:

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move!

-If you are serious about chess, hire a chess coach.

-Play with a slow time control, such as G/30 so you have plenty of time to think before every move.

-You are welcome to come to my free online beginner chess class on May 14:

-Feel free to ask my question on my live chess livestream Youtube channel, every Sunday from 1-2pm PST.

"Should I read a book on chess." ++ Yes, but do not overdo that. 1 book per year is enough.

"Or Are there any sites where I can find simple puzzles to solve." ++ Yes, puzzles are good.

"I have been playing 10 minute matches online and can't seem to improve."
++ Play 15|10 and play it slowly: use all the available time. Always check your intended move is no blunder before you play it. Whenever you lose a game, stop playing and analyse it.
