Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected  chess coach and chess YouTuber who helps beginners out :

Send me one of your games and I'll be happy to analyze the game for free on my YouTube channel on Sunday livestream from 1-2PM PST.  Ask me questions in real time!

This is a great way to improve!

Here’s more  ideas to help you get better.

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces”   and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.”  Both books are available on Amazon.com.  Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

- Check out the 500 puzzles for beginners.  These puzzles are unique and cannot be found anywhere else: .  These puzzles are endorsed by chess masters!

-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move!

-Play with a slow time control, such as G/30 so you have plenty of time to think before every move.

The following is a 10 step improvement program:

1) Do chess.com’s puzzle rush daily. And lichess.org’s puzzle streak. Both helps you spot how to take advantage of an opponent’s mistake.
2) Play slow games. Avoid blitz.
3) After each game, analyze the game. Do not leap into another game. Best analyzed by copying the PGN and going to www.chesspractice.com. Your analysis should take at least 20-30 minutes
4) Make notes, organized by opening and color. I use Notes on the iPad for this. Put a lot of screen shots in each note. Links to your games from www.chesspractice.com can be put into the notes.
5) When you analyze your games, do lots of what if analyses to find better moves. Save useful what if analyses.
6) Play just the English opening as White. It’s an opening your opponents are not likely to know.
7) If Black, play the French defense against White’s king pawn opening and the Kings Indian Defense against White’s queen pawn. Don’t play other defenses.
8) Weekly, review your games and notes. Easily done if you analyze at www.chesspractice.com as all are saved with the analysis.
9) Practice your openings and variations relentlessly. Best done at www.chesspractice.com as the best move is not shown until after you make your move so you have to think. You’ll hear some people say not to worry about learning openings. That is a recommendation unsupported by data. The fact is, the player who knows the opening best gets an advantage and wins more.
10) Practice end games so you know how to win or draw. Chess.com has good end game practice exercises
