How do I improve? I am always losing over the board games and I was wondering on how to improve

TheFranticPawns

I find it really hard to find good moves is there anyway to become better

Twilight287

Analyze your games and look at your mistakes. Look at the best move, and figure out why are those moves good, and why is your move bad. Try to avoid making similar mistakes in the future. Also, do puzzles. Puzzles help a lot

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected  chess coach and chess YouTuber who helps beginners out :

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP5SPSG_sWSYPjqJYMNwL_Q

Here’s some ideas to help you get better.

-I’ll be happy to analyze one of your chess games for free for my YouTube channel, since I love to help beginners out.  Share one of your games with me!  This is a great way to get better!

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces”   and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.”  Both books are available on Amazon.com.  Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move!

-Play with a slow time control, such as G/30 so you have plenty of time to think before every move.

-You are welcome to come to my free online beginner chess class on March 12: https://www.chessbylauren.com/blog/OnlinechessclassMarch12

this is a game of war, so act accordingly & pretend that you are fighting one wherein time is the critical issue & you must maximize the usage of every tempo (move):

quickly get your guys (pieces) into useful supportive action for your campaign, take the high ground (center), control the lines of communication (important files) & protect your troops while trying to take theirs for free so you wind up with the larger army.

if you develop superior force (extra pieces), regroup, trade equal material until your piece ratio is 1:0, take some pawns & then make some extra queens with which to kill the (now) helpless opposing general.

try to think just as hard about what your opponent is trying to do as what you would like to do & assume that they will always play the best moves.

pattern recognition is the key to success:

STUDY lessons for strategy & puzzles for tactics;

have fun & enjoy a consistent learning routine.

Thank you for the tips!

You need to learn ways to play chess. Which peace is best to do what, where and when and how it interacts with other peaces. This will knowledge will give you power to know what you can do, what your oponent can do and what has to be done. Then, you need couple of thousand of games to put this knowledge into skill. Read some books, watch video's and play. Only at 1200 rating people will not give you peaces easily and you start playing real chess. But, for your rating it's no use even if you're 2 peaces up if you don't know what to do with them.
