Hi everyone, I’m writing this because I believe some of you might relate. I’ve been playing chess since 2022 and I found myself deeply immersed in chess — to the point where it’s starting to affect my daily life. I see patterns in my dreams, replay games in my mind when I’m supposed to be resting, and even find myself opening the app almost unconsciously. While I genuinely love the game, I’ve come to realize that this level of obsession is interfering with my sleep, focus, and overall balance. So I wanted to open up a discussion here. Has anyone else struggled with this kind of chess addiction? If yes, how did you manage to bring balance back into your life without quitting the game entirely? Here are a few things I’m personally trying: Limiting the number of games per day Allocating fixed hours for chess instead of random sessions Replacing blitz with longer time controls to slow down the pace Taking short breaks and focusing on other hobbies or physical activities I’d love to hear your experiences, suggestions, or even just your thoughts on the topic. Chess is an amazing game, but like anything else, I believe it needs to be enjoyed in moderation.

If you play chess tilt for 10 games and lose 150 elo you will quit, but then come back because you wonder why it happened. It happened to me just with I remember 100 elo.

I like it because I like the game of chess and if you don’t like it then you will come back because you either just want to come back or you were frustrated with something on this website, left, then came back because you wondered what hapened

The strategies you're trying are the perfect way to regain control because they intentionally break the cycle of instant gratification that fuels the addiction. To take it a step further, many players find success by completely removing the app from their phones, forcing them to play deliberately on a computer, which turns chess back into a scheduled hobby instead of a constant temptation.
