Teaching a Beginner Positional Chess is extremely difficult.

The Majority of the time - It is a total waste of a coaches time.

Most Beginners have games filled with errors.

Most Beginners wins can be accomplished with Solid Play and/or Tactics.

What Positional play are you hoping to achieve?

Consider both your own and your opponent’s weaknesses. For instance, if your opponent has a weak square or pawn, plan how you might be able to exploit that.

Look for opportunities to improve your piece placement or restrict your opponent’s pieces.

The real issue will be if the OP can use some of these ideas in his games or if it isn’t the right time for him to use the ideas.

The OP never said what openings he plays.

Making a plan is the first step.

A bad plan or the wrong plan is still better than no plan.

And yes, if you suck at tactics, the best positional play wont help you.
