How to read/annotate/learn from a chess book?

You really only need one book. It is called "...The Six Power Moves Of Chess..." by William G. Karneges

A Chinese would do it in the palm

Why though?

Correction: a Chinese would do it on a rice grain (the chess board and the pieces)

I Don't know man, never Seen that, Sounds kind of fishy. If someone manages to make a chessboard and chess pieces out of a grain Rice, well, I'd say they craftmanship is top notch!

Oh, I understand you: You never see a Chinese!

Here's a joke: an English and a Chinese proudly watch the U.K flag. The English ask: I'm proud because it's my country flag, but you why are so proud?

Look closer, on the flag there is written "Made in China"

Chess reading technology has been rapidly evolving the last few years.  You can now read books on a smartphone or tablet and have strong engine support to answer nagging questions to moves that you are thinking about (why won't the author talk about move X? What if Black plays Y? What if White responds Z?), but that no author would even consider since they typically write for more seasoned chess players.  You can do interactive problem-solving training with instant engine support on the tactics trainer here and on Chess Tempo as well, and learn better the concrete decisive technical positions (e.g., tactics and basic endgames) inside and out with thorough exposure and exploration, not having to trust anybody else.  The point is, until you have a decent working knowledge of the concrete motifs in chess (tactics, basic endgames), you won't be able to understand what underlies many of the interesting positions and associated complex decisions presented in many a chess book.

Dear Chessfriend,

My name is Gabor Balazs. I am a Hungarian FM, fighting for the IM title. My top ELO is 2435. I have been playing chess for 21 years. I won the Hungarian Rapid Championship twice (U16 and U18).

I love teaching chess and it is very important for me that both of us enjoy the lessons beside the hard work. I have pupils almost all the levels from beginners to advanced players (1100-2200 ELO).

Why should you choose me?

- I have a widespread opening repertoire (a lot of openings are analysed by strong Grand Masters).

- I have a lot of chess books in PDF and Chessbase format, so I can teach you the main middlegame plans, the art of calculations, famous chess games and the endgame theory.

- I have elaborated, personalized training plans, which help you to improve your skills effectively.

- I help you analyse your games deeply, so you can realise your mistakes and learn from them.

- I am really flexible and hard-working person, the quality of my work is really important for me.

Please, contact me (balazsgabor1991@gmail.com), if you are interested in working with me, I am looking forward to your message. happy.png
