How to stay focused?

I play very aggressively in chess, a lot of times TOO aggressively. But it somehow usually works out. But my biggest problem is that whenever I have an edge (a big materiel advantage, better positioning, or having their king on the run) I get tunnel vision and forget to defend, sometimes this helps me ruthlessly checkmate my opponent, but most of the time it leads to stupid mistakes ( my defense being penetrated, or me losing pieces when it could have been avoided) and in the end me getting checkmated. My best games are the ones where I was evenly matched the whole time, or when my opponent was putting a lot of stress on me. Is there an easy way to avoid this? For instance some kind of procedure before I make my move that will help me remember my side of the board?

Before you make a move in a more tactical position have a mental checklist of Checks, captures, threats and lastly blundercheck (everything is solid and not hanging a piece or missing a simple tactic). Just my two cents.
