I can't win if my opponent doesn't blunder early

I have come to this realization that except for when my opponent gives me a clear path to victory (blunder), I can't win. I can't see any tactics in the middle game except for baby tactics like capturing an unprotected pawn. And even that doesn't happen as they defend it in the next move. It is frustrating
