I don’t know if i’m normal
Is passion like this for chess normal? Yes.
What makes it chess "addiction" is if it is negatively impacting your life. If chess gets in the way of your life in a negative way (like you constantly distracted because thinking about chess variations, or constantly tired because of lack of sleep from staying up late playing speed chess), then it's an addiction and you could look to undo that (either on your own, or with a professional therapist).
If you simply play a lot of chess, but love it and it doesn't negatively impact your life, then you're just someone who loves chess and that's great. ![]()
As for you playing 3-4 hours per day, I wouldn't say that alone is an addiction, but it could be if it is again negatively impacting your life. 3 hours is like one sitting for me. Literally
Years ago, I'd occasionally have like 12+ sittings in one day. It was rare, but I'd commonly play chess for 3-6 hours a day. Now I play less chess for several reasons, but one main reason was the realization that I couldn't play my best chess for that many hours straight, so I was better off only playing for a few hours and then taking a break and coming back refreshed another day.
Your rating gains are good if you are happy with them, but rating becomes MUCH tougher to gain as you get higher rated. There's no indication you'll become a CM even if you work obsessively hard at chess. The global average rating of all active chess players on chess.com is in the 600s. In other words, you've made a ton of progress, but are just a little above average. Titled players are better than 99.9% of all chess players and even if you reach that 99.9% level, that is still far from Titled player as it is extremely competitive and they know so much and have such a high ability for chess.
Chess is hard.
The one thing you have going for you is you started young-ish enough to still learn the game really well. Just make sure you STUDY and ANALYSE. Playing is very important, but you won't reach a title without spending time on learning and refining your game.
I hold out hope that those who pick the game up in their adulthood can still reach titles, but it's exceedingly rare.
A CM/NM/FM/IM and even many GMs will not earn enough money from winning chess events to sustain a living, but as long as they have a personality, many of them would be able to make an honest living in chess coaching, courses and content creation.
It's so addicting. I've got 5k games on this account but I mainly play on lichess where I have over 30k games lol

Idk it was just kind of memorable for me. Think how hard it would be to get to 2300 from like 2000. Like that could take four years easily. But he already got there in four years. Fantastic. 2300 and up is pretty dog gone impressive. Just wanted op to know there’s some credibility there with the advice.

If you think that's impressive look at Oro. He started playing 4 years ago and is now nearly a GM
