I don't understand the time thing.

You may have a bit of lag/connection issue.
The clock on your computer is moving slower than real real time and the 8 minutes your screen shows is actually almost ten; so when the game/server re checks the time it updates yours and you lose all that time at once? or something like that.
Kind of like I stream a ball game and my buddy starts watching the same game at the same time, on 'cablevision' yet he finishes a few minutes in front of me over a couple of hours. My display doesn't freeze or skip, just moves a tiny bit slower, making a big difference at the end.
It happened to me again tonight. I guess lag time could explain it but it is annoying. Its always when I am doing well, never when I am not doing well.
I don't think I do. It's the end of the game and not many pieces left so I've planed what to play. Oh well at least I know I probably would have won.

It’s the only reason I lose 10 minute rapid games… 15|10 forever!
So I play the 10 minute games. It's getting down to 2 minutes left on the clock and my opponent moves. Before I have a chance to move it says he won on time. That has happened a couple of times. I don't understand why the time ran out when it still showed 2 minutes.
