Love and affinity are two overrated concepts.

You can't love something that you're bad at. 

Sure you can. I know several people who LOVE chess, but aren't rated that high. What people don't like usually is LOSING. This can be tough to deal with sometimes, but if the lower rated players are playing people around their level, then they probably win and lose the same amount as anyone else. 

You can definitely love something and not be good at it. Love for something and ability are two distinct things.

I love chess after a win;

I do love chess after a nice win;

I love chess after an honorable defeat;

I disappointed after a bad defeat, but just for a few minutes: after reviewing the game, I love chess again.

Plus, I love solving puzzles ( even if it doesn’t help all that much ), talking about chess ( with someone willing to listen… ), reading about chess history…

I reasonably think that chess will always be challanging and never boring for me.
