Is chess.com really helpful for chess or it's destroying the mind

Losing streak, winning streak, losing streak, winning streak - There's definitely some algorithmic shenanigans going on. You can bet they're using some dark pattern concepts to try to keep you obsessed/addicted.

I am "chatting addictive", is it because of some algorithms on the forum?

Chess.com makes you win a couple of games and then makes you lose them so you get hooked, I experienced this by creating a new account and I noticed that during the first games I was assigned to easier players and once they selected my elo they assigned me to play against other players that had the same elo as mine but were by far more experienced. You guys can trie that experiment by yourselves. Additionally there is a reddit post made by software engineer that discusses about the possibility that chess.com has an algorithm similar to the gamblings machines "addictive match making" https://www.reddit.com/r/Chesscom/comments/1onjv9n/chesscom_employs_unethical_addictive_match_making/

I think that it is similar to this but not as addictive, when you play your first games this is very true in my opinion because you gain almost 30 elo per win, but if you are in intermediate or begginer level and haven't just made your account chess.com only gives you areound 8 elo per win. I do find myself losing most of the games I play in the mornings though and I have stopped playing them where I think if it was addictive I would still try and play morning games. happy.png bye

Not the same, newer accounts have provisional ratings, so they swing a lot at first while the system figures out your skill level. After enough games, the rating stabilizes and you’ll usually gain or lose about 8 points per game, depending on your opponent’s rating.
