Just broke 1600 Rapid!

Honestly, I'm kind of in shock. I spent 8 months locked in the 1400 rating range, stymied week after week by things that felt like they should have been easier to understand. Then I broke 1500 finally! I probably naively assumed that the climb to 1600 would probably take just as long, if not longer. Yet here I am, two months later and i've broken through that next milestone. I also can't help but smile at the symbolic relevance of this milestone. I've had a lot of problems against the Ruy Lopez and the French Defense. I defeated both when I broke the 1600 barrier tonight. I'm proud of the work i've put in and i'm more motivated than ever to hone my skills in chess and keep improving and grinding it out. 

As always, the milestone game and this time the one prior as defeating the French AND the Ruy is a highlight  i'm particularly happy about tonight.

I don't know if it's an coincidence, but I did struggle to break 1500 too.

In fact, I just broke 1500 today, lol. Let's hope my journey to 1600 is as pleasant as yours.

Use chess books. Try to solve and study systematically. Make training schedules.
