Hey everyone! I’m a total beginner at chess and looking for someone to play with. I’d love to get better and learn some strategies along the way. Anyone up for a game?

Follow opening principles.

You can try challenging me OP, although no guarantees that I’ll accept (I accept 90% of challenges though.)

#2 is correct.

#3 isn’t, or at least needs to add more context. He is probably spamming.

Learn very common winning endgames and a few middlegame ideas.

Focus on basic board vision (taking free pieces) and tactics (fancy taking free pieces.) I’m not a HangingPiecesChomper, but taking free material consistently is very important. Actively avoid allowing your opponents to take your free pieces. Annotate (analyze) your games.

Longer time controls are best, but I like this quote also:

Analyze your blitz games. Don’t just play a bunch of blitz games, forget about them, and say, “Wow, blitz is useless!”

Just here to get the comment achievement, but I agree with #4. As someone who started playing a little over a year ago, what helped me the most in the beginning, was doing longer time control. This forced me to think more about my moves and improved my vision on the board.

Good luck! Enjoy the learning process happy.png

I'd say #4 said lots of useful things. I'd be happy to play and provide feedback.

Puzzles can be really good for practice

I’ve noticed with players I teach that progress speeds up once they stop chasing openings and start focusing on the core principles.

As a beginner myself, puzzles have helped me the most. Openings just distract me and feel like a waste of time right now. If you're a super beginner try beating an easy chess computer, the computer wont laugh at your moves like my opponents do to me
