PC Software recommendation?

Greetings

I haven't played chess in years, but my 8-year-old granddaughter has recently taken an interest and  I am struggling to properly explain the game to her.

We have two computers sitting side by side (so I can keep an eye on her) and I would like to buy a chess program that we could install and play on both computers against each other (via LAN).  Something that would help her learn the game would be great.  Not really concerned about price, I am  a strong believer that you get what you pay for

Can anyone recommend something?
