I really want to finish the lessons, do as many puzzles as i want and unlock all of the bots (thats all i want really) So should i get gold or a higher tier?

platinum, and chess.com is pay to win
You can probably find lessons videos online, as well as various puzzles. Bots aren't good anyway (plus you can simply play vs AI). So, no need to spend any money at all.
I am all for free to play
If budget is a concern, you might start with Platinum Membership to see if it meets your needs for lessons and puzzles.
