Hi guys, I hope this is the right forum for this, apologies if not.

I'm a beginner and I have a question... What do you think about the series queen's gambit?

very interesting to listen to expert's opinions

A must watch series!

The Beth Harmon is a fiction character but there are some names whichbare inspired from real characters, the positions on the board are nice too. The beginning when Beth learns about scholar's mate is written in detail.

I also recommend you to watch Pawn Sacrifice, it is made on legendary player Bobby fischer.

Thank you for the recommendation!

Hi Cassy,

Disclaimer, this is an opinion from another beginner and not an expert's opinion.

I thoroughly enjoyed the series, it is the main thing that made me take a real interest in chess, join chess.com and try and improve my game.

I have watched the series twice, once when I knew very little about the game, and a 2nd time when I still knew very little about the game, but enough that I had a much better grasp of the language being used, and was able to follow the games and the concepts explored.

From what I have read, expert Chess players also respect the series, here is a fun video from Gotham Chess where he talks about the series and runs through 7 games that are in it 7 BEST Games in Netflix's The Queen's Gambit

Finally, if you did like the series, I would also recommend checking out the book.

I’d like to see it, but it’s on a platform I don’t have. Yes I know, I could subscribe but hey, you can have too much to watch

I watched when it was released October 2020 and had never played chess in my life before that. Thought the show was great, watched it twice and i've been addicted to playing since, hence the 1900 rating tongue. But seriously, was interesting to see what the chess scene was like in the 1960s through the show, everyone definitely dressed better back then.

Although somewhat dramatized for the run time of the episodes, the chess scenes (tournament and casual) were reasonable and similar to what people would see in that time period.

It did a good job of explaining some basic concepts (such as what a chess clock is) without interfering with the flow of the story.

I am not an expert, I’m an 1800, but I’ll still share my opinion.

The Queen’s Gambit is a great series, I really enjoyed it. The plot and characters are amazing and considering Garry Kasparov himself worked on the chess part, it is very accurate chess-wise (meaning the positions are from real grandmaster games and the language used is not some nonsense). Overall, very good.

Tobey Maguire was amazing. Never saw Queen's Gambit but I did see Peaky Blinders and Beth has some questionable actions
