Can U2000 players ignore database and still maintain gradual improvement? How would you rate Caissabase and scid vs pc to the popular commercial Chessbase and Megadatabase?

Avatar of HarryMaguire-05

i mean B1z that works. the 3 engines have slight edges over eachother so its not too big of a difference

interesting question

I don't velieve too much in finding engine moves but rather understanding them. So yes you could improve without worrying too much about engine moves, especially in the openings. caissabase, scid, pc whatever database all have the same goal of having many games from masters to analyze. However, in terms of analyzing the games, the depths of the engirnes don't matter too much because let's be real, it won't matter if the engine is 3000 or 3400.

well I improved despite (or because of?) playing alekhine's defense. The theory I learned at 1300? I didn't need to find any new lines or improvements. I didn't really need the database, honestly.

Is 1.e4 e5 2.nf3 nc6 3.bc4 bb4 sensible? If so why, if not why?

What about 1.e4 e5 2.nf3 nc6 1.bc4 bb4?

Not really sensible since 3.c3 give white tempo then d4 or b4 comes next

if you put five candles in the correct spots of a pentagram around yourself at 3am in the morning in the bathroom and spin three times in front of the mirror and say "Bloody mary" you will get a big surprise!!!
