K I'll ask another. How useful do you think things like Chessable courses are?

never had it so I can actually say you don't need them to get to 2k+ on chess.com. You just need a person to teach you rules and positional and tactical.

I thought of a better one. Is it better to play every day no matter what or only when you’re on? Like, if I play a game or two and I clearly playing like pure unfiltered garbage, should I keep playing for a full hour or just go do something else?

Try maybe switching time controls or doing tactics or vice versa. Its more about self disciplined and knowing yourself though.

Would you rather beat Carlsen 5 times in a row, or be the first human to defeat Alpha Zero in an amazing globally broadcasted blood infested game of the century.

What should I do to develop my understanding of openings? I can play the first moves fine but when we’re in the middle game it can be hard to differentiate between two seemingly good options
Avatar of ricechesmaster
That’s the thing in the middle game your opening wouldn’t matter too much as long as you choose one the fits your style. If you want a tactical middle game the play a tactical opening. If you want positional then play a positional opening.

So then what openings count as tactical openings and which ones count as positional openings?

Alright I'm going to try to make a list
Tactical
- Italian
- Birds

- Caro Kann

Positional

- Kings Indian

- London system
- Catalan

- Sicillian

Tactical openings lead to positions with a lot of calculation and tactics.

Positional ones lead to positions where both players will fight over specific squares to control and advantage points.

play more and then when you're done that, play more and do tactics.
