rules of castling

I just played a game where I thought my opponent shouldn't have been able to castle because my bishop was controlling his castling range (see diagram). However, he was able to do so for some reason. So I wondered in which situation can one castle under such control? Thank you.

The king can't castle through a check. The rook can.
