So I’m just learning chess and see there is an ELO attached to me and kinda nervous about dumping all my points. Should I just say screw it and jump in? I can’t imagine it can get much worse.

Just go for it losing points is like paying your tuition in the school of chess everyone flunks a few tests but that’s how you graduate someday, think of losing points as free lessons from life.

Every master, streamer, and titled player once had a 400 ELO rating. They got better by playing, losing, learning, and repeating.

I’ve sent you a challenge for a game. We are similar as we both are quite new. Happy to play some unrated games if that helps get you going. At the moment I mostly play daily games as I am squeezing games in.

Well Playing games helps you improve in chess and learn from mistakes.
