Awww baby, don't give up, you and chess have got a good thing going. Tell you the truth, half the people who play chess in the world are at your level or below it. Chess can be just as fun at low levels too, tell you the truth I kinda miss my old how does the horse move days. It was groovy.

If you need an inspirational video, rather than an instructional one to keep you going try this

Thank you so much, everyone! Your advice has been a big help. Don’t get me wrong, I do love the game of chess and I enjoy playing it. My problem is that I am super competitive and hate losing.

Don't ask other people what you should do. Only you can know what you CAN do or not !

Also interesting, how do you know that you're bad in chess? You've played there only few dozens of games in two years. Is that possible to make any conclusion out of this?

While it is unlikely that anyone knows exactly what you should do, it is possible to get suggestions that have a good chance to be helpful. For example, when choosing books to read, it is well to keep in mind:

"... If it’s instruction, you look for an author that addresses players at your level (buying something that’s too advanced won’t help you at all). This means that a classic book that is revered by many people might not be useful for you. ..." - IM Jeremy Silman (2015)

I've been playing for almost 8.5 years and your rating is like 300-400 below me

Quit while you're not hooked yet. You don't want to play chess until old age.

Composed like endgame studies?

Exactly. What you should actually be doing is playing a Botez Gambit in the endgame, every game.

My theory is that if you do that the game will end faster.

All this free endgame theory and people are paying for endgame material!?

Personally, Golf and chess are similar. I have a limited time to play each. I'll never play golf never well but have some weekend fun. Every time I go to the range and practice, my next game is terrible due to my stress level on remembering all the small adjustments. I'm not very good at chess either. But I play and have a good time working on the puzzles and the quicker games. I feel like I've improved over the past year and enjoyed playing chess. My thought is if you enjoy playing and improving, why give that up just because you can't reach a level quickly enough?

Please be nice. I know I said golf and chess in the same sentence.

I said please. It's great we can experience things in our own way...but I should divided it into 2 sentences now that I look back happy.png

ok, thank you

Yes. Quit. Lion once had promising career options. Now reduced to a fat drunken slob craving another blitz game. Worse than gambling. And is more fun if you are quite rubbish anyway?  Get a little better and people tell you to play the Slav or one of these stupid Indian defence that don't work. And then you pretty much f,cked to be honest. Please quit.

Quit before chess obsession infect you. Checkers, Scrabble, Stratego, etc are fun and challenging to the brain.

The chess piece called Queen was actually called Witch 1000 years ago. If the witch put a spell on you, you're addicted to chess forever like many of us.

DO NOT QUIT:

you can improve many ways, one of which is watching videos

(I personally suggest this channel, its very good (for me))

Listen to the Lion and Barbarian. Quit! There is life after chess.

No. Quit?! Improving is part of the problem. Leading to increased play and study. And learning convoluted opening nonsense like the NimzoIndian or worse, the KingsIndian, KID. And once the KID gets you, well...

bong711

You are correct Lion. Chess improvement is a never ending journey. The KID theory alone is a labyrinth. You study from Gufeld to Nakamura.

I would not quit. I was stuck at 730 for almost a year, but now my skill level is up to 1100 after only another year of playing.

sleehrat

I suppose there are people that just can't improve due to any number of reasons. If they played similar games each time, I could see someone giving up.
