recently I have been losing lot of games due to not having spent enough time I would really like to in the opening and as a result I end up being down on the clock and play the middlegame fast which usually leads to blunders and when I the vice versa I end up having difficult position where it is just demand hard to find the best move / plan for the game. and really don't want to switch from my favorite 10|0 ANY WORDS ON WHAT TO DO

Hi,

If you’re running out of time you need to either increase the time control or improve your time management by moving more quickly through the opening phase. Up to you which to do.

15/10 is significant jump in time control

in fact, if i can get out of opening quickly and efficiently enough then 15/10 is often “better” than a 30/0 game

15/10 still feels fast for me but i would need to play a 30/30 (or 45/45) to get an online time control that would provide “longer time control benefits”

in short, 15/10 will feel better than 10 most likely

When you face two conflicting goals, you cannot achieve both goals at the same time.

You could temporarily make a switch to 15|10.

Or you could discipline yourself to make moves within a prescribed amount of time, even in 10|0. It's like saying, after say 2 minutes, if I do not make a move by then, I must do so.

15|10 is much better than 10|0
In 15|10 thanks to the increment you can always win a won position or draw a drawn position.
15|10 is the official FIDE rapid time control.

Just so you know, a 10 minute game is a maximum of 20 minutes, with most games in the 10 ~ 20 minute range.

15|10 can take a maximum of 2 hours and 30 minutes, with most games in the 23 to 45 minute range.  Obviously, if both players are not using their time controls effectively, the game can be fairly short, but if you are planning on using all your time, you are going to have a significantly longer game.

I would try 10|1 first. Just the extra seconds back make a huge difference. @OP did you make the change in the end?

I think it's a personal choice. Try both and choose then.
