Why let your opponent have the satisfaction of ending you when you can do it yourself?

At 500 you probably have a 50-50 chance of winning after an early Queen loss, so yes, I get why you say people shouldn't resign.

However, some people are playing purely for enjoyment and have no interest in getting better. Trying to play a game with a Queen down might not be fun for them.

Sometimes the sheer rage and dissapointment a person feels when they blunder their queen is enough to make them immediately resign regardless of whether they can make it back or not.

it is not mandatory for anyone to resign, or for anyone to keep on playing the game

Saudi guy resigned today when all was lost. It was a good contest that went until he was down to King and pawns. I resign if Queen is done and they are tearing through my rooks (mea culpa, I'll take the loss).

Last week an American guy resigned when I took his first bishop and just had some pawns set up. It was only a few moves in. He clearly did not want to throw himself at that defence.

What I want to do is see if I can force a resign with just pawns and knights taking the centre.

I try not to judge too much. They may have been trying some new type of opening and fell flat on their face. All might seem lost, they may hate themselves for losing a key piece to their strategy. I just make sure I say good game, thank you, etc.

They might have seen it coming, or had a really bad feeling about sticking around.
