For #82. Pawn weaknesses: When facing a weak pawn, don’t rush. Add 1–2 attackers, not more, to tie down their defenders. Then shift focus to another weakness or improve your position. If they can’t defend and have no counterplay, it’s a free pawn. If they can, create a new weakness—maybe by provoking a structure break, using tactics, trading, playing prophylactic moves, baiting weakening moves. You can also switch sides to overstretch their position. Remember: weak pawns aren’t just to be captured—they’re long-term targets for gaining initiative and restricting their pieces.

Imbalances are differences in position or material that affect strategy—like Q vs 3 minors, R vs 2 minors, B vs N, space, structure, and more. They matter even when other pieces are on the board (e.g., R+B vs R+N still counts as B vs N). Rules are helpful, but sometimes breaking them is best.
1. B vs N / N vs B – Against a knight, limit its squares and box it out. Against a bishop, put your pawns on the opposite color and protect them.
2. Pawn Structure – Target weak pawns (isolated, backward, stuck), and defend your own. Weakness = can’t move + under pressure.
3. Space – More space means more piece activity. Focus your attack where you have space (center or wing), and squeeze your opponent.
4. Files & Squares – Use open files for rooks, long diagonals for bishops, and place knights on weak squares the enemy can’t control.
5. Development – Don’t rush with just a few pieces out. Finish development, then the tactics and attack will follow.
6. Initiative – Keep making threats to control the game. Use that momentum to finish development and launch attacks.

Weak squares and how to take advantage of them.

A weak square is a kind of square that can’t be challenged by an enemy pawn and is ideally controlled by yours. Create weak squares by baiting pawn moves (e.g., provoking a knight kick). Place a piece—usually a knight—on the weak square, not a pawn. Trade off the defenders (except pawns) to secure it. For example, if only a bishop defends it, trade bishops first, then place your knight there.

actually solid advice but I already know that :>

Don’t make weaknesses in your position.

Avoid color weaknesses – Don’t push pawns onto the same color if your bishop can’t defend those squares or is gone. Force opponents to weaken squares, then attack them using your pieces.
Avoid pawn weaknesses – Don’t allow backward, doubled, tripled, or isolated pawns. Trade when you ruin the structure, but only do it when the piece you will trade with is positionally equal/slightly better/worse than the piece that you are trading for.
Avoid giving outposts – Don’t push pawns in ways that give your opponent strong squares for their pieces. Instead, force them to weaken their control and take over those squares yourself.

Originally I made it myself put into forums then put into notes so I can copy paste whenever I want, but since it is too long and it would take days to finish chatgpt did the rest.

It’s awesome that you’ve been playing chess daily for over four months Getting stuck around a 950-1000 rating is very common, especially in 10-minute rapid games. Even though you use openings like the Ruy Lopez exchange variation and the Caro Kann, it’s important to keep practicing tactics regularly. When motivation drops, try reviewing your past games to understand your mistakes and learn from them. Playing some slower games can also help you improve your overall thinking. Don’t worry about your age many players keep getting better well into their 30s. Improvement is a lot like reliable services such as majesticchauffeur.com rides or airline crew transport Perth small consistent efforts make a big difference.

If I was 2000 and stuck there I would be very happy with myself ngl

I know the OP's feeling - I am fighting to overcome 1000 in Rapid. I fought up to 1005, then lost my latest game and dropped to 997 after losing despite a Brilliant move, after a miscalculation. The opponent asked to chat, then gloated. Oh well - someone else to block, and another reason not to chat...

Being stuck around 950–1000 is completely normal and has nothing to do with age. At this level, games are decided by basic tactics, piece safety, and simple endgames—not openings. Your Ruy Lopez and Caro-Kann are fine. Play fewer games with more focus, review losses for one clear mistake, and do short daily tactics even when motivation is low. Consistent fundamentals, not grinding games, will push you past this plateau. For a clear, personalized plan to improve faster, this is a strong place to start

I have an advice for every one it actually quite helpful!! I tried the and my rating is increasing quite rapidly . What you should do is try to play as simple as possible follow these 4 rules :
1) G : go into the opponents territory and find a valid attacking move. Use a bit of focus and thinking power and you will able to attack quite well especially knights as they are short ranged
2) I : Inactive piece to active. Fight unemployment in chess. It i quite help ful try to make you pieces active as much as possible to win the game.
3) O : occupy the center. Use your pawns to occupy the center , more the number of pieces in the center more winning capacity. Place short range pieces as well like knights.
4) R : restrict opponent from entering in your area. Attack the pieces entering your area as they are dangerous
BONUS : TRADE IS A MISTAKE TRADE OnLY WHEN YOU GET AN ADVANTAGE LIKE POSITIONAL OR LIMITING YOUR OPPONENTS ACTIVITY. PLUS SOLVE TACTICAL PUZZLES FROM LICHESS AND MAIA CHESS.
