target time for puzzles?

I know how you feel. My puzzle rating would plummet if I forced myself to move in 30 seconds or less per puzzle. Would masters recommend we limit the time we give ourselves or take as much time as we need to solve?¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The target time is often unrealistic. I'm assuming it drops once people get the same puzzle more often. It's pretty frustrating since I try to play faster in order to get a relevant point increase (more than 5, hopefully around 10). However, you get unlucky and miss one relevant piece of the puzzle. There are quite a few puzzles that try to trick you too. If it happens to be a relevatively low rated puzzle (around 1650 for me), that ultimately and realistically means getting -15 rating or +5 rating.
I usually replay failed puzzles, and when I do can solve them correctly in a short time.
The damage to the rating is already done though and it becomes demotivating.

There seems to be a discrepancy between the target time, which urges you to become as fast as the average solver (which is skewed because of repeat solvers), and your rating, which will drop as soon as you try to be as fast as a repeat solver.

I usually try to just get the puzzle correct. Calculating all the lines is better training I think and the punishment for mistakes is way too harsh and demotivating to take the risk (for a time bonus).

The problem with this is if you actually do take the time, which I agree is the best, you'll only gain something like 5 points on average.
Say a puzzle is 4 moves long and it's not incredibly difficult or easy, and the target time is 40 seconds. If I wanna calculate all of it out and evaluate the final position, it'll probably take at least a few minutes. If I just go on instinct and hope for the best, I can get it done within 40 seconds but my success rate will drop significantly.
Let's say if I take my time, my accuracy is 80%, that means for every 5 puzzle, I gain 20 points and lose 15 for the one I get wrong, so I'd only be gaining 5 points every 15 minutes on average. Obviously, this is an extreme example, but even with 90% accuracy, I'll only be gaining a point per minute on average. Whereas if you solve every puzzle within the target time, You'll be gaining maybe 20-30 points per minute.
I'm very much incentivized to try to solve the puzzles as fast as possible, as even if I solve puzzles accurately, I won't gain much rating at all. I think they should either increase the target time, or reduce the time bonus to incentivize people to solve the puzzles correctly.

I think you are wrong. You are incentivized to solve the puzzles correctly, and not worry about the time.
If you make a guess to speed up the solve, you will guess wrong at least half of the time (probably more). If you are right, you gain +8-10 points instead of +5. If you are wrong, you can lose as much as 15. The risk / reward ratio is terrible.

AFAIK its impossible to lose rating if you solve the puzzle correctly in the end.
So just focus on that.
Though honestly I have no clue what puzzle rating is even good for. It seems to mean nothing.
