That damned Mateo!

Hi all.

I’ll caveat this by stressing my appreciation for bot play and play against a human being being, for the most part, different beasts with their own utility.

That said, insofar as there is scope for development as a beginner in playing against bots, I seem to have hit a wall with Mateo, “who” is amongst the highest ranked intermediate bots.

Quite aside from the countless losses being a source of frustration, it does raise concerns that I am simply not improving.

What I have found, particularly making use of ‘mistake’ warnings, is that whilst I’m certainly not a terrible player, I’m hopelessly unrefined, often missing the optimal moves.

Does anyone have any targeted advice as to how I’m best to improve, both in general terms, but also in terms of the consistent optimal play required to defeat the bot algorithms?

Many thanks

James :)

You have a winning record thus far, well done because it shows promise.

I see that you are a diamond member and haven’t done any rated puzzles. I would add rated puzzles into your warm up routine before you play about a handful to a dozen.

Other days, do puzzles rush and 2-3 dozens of rated puzzles to improve your pattern recognition, board visions, develop an eye for tactics and hopefully mitigate blunders along the way.

Mechanics why, I haven’t looked at your games; perhaps another time. DM me if you are interested on an assessment. I am assuming at the level 500, blunders can go back and forth multiple times so stay focused for a dog fight and don’t resign.
